Forehead-Reduction-Surgery
Forehead reduction surgery is a cosmetic procedure that helps reduce the height of the forehead. A wide forehead may be the result of genetic factors, hair loss, or the result of previous cosmetic procedures. This surgical option helps balance your facial features and is different from a brow lift.
Some people may feel self-conscious about a high hairline or a disproportionately large forehead. In these cases, the forehead can be distracting because it dominates other attractive facial features. From a facial proportion perspective, the forehead should occupy approximately one-third of the entire face. Many people often avoid ponytails and attempt to conceal their foreheads by changing hairstyles, wearing hats, and shaping or drawing their eyebrows higher in an attempt to shorten the distance between the eyebrows and the hairline, creating the appearance of a smaller forehead. While these may improve the appearance of the face temporarily, they are not a permanent solution and require daily care, in addition to serving as a daily reminder of a facial feature that causes embarrassment. Forehead reduction surgery provides a permanent solution for these clients.
Dr. Tarek Zahra is a consultant plastic surgeon whose technical expertise is essential for forehead reduction and hairline lowering surgery. He carefully tailors his approach to your anatomy and personal goals, rather than following a standard method. The procedure begins with an assessment of the anatomy of your forehead, hairline, and eyebrows. Together, you will determine the precise location of your hairline to enhance the appearance of your eyebrows, highlight the beauty of your forehead, and balance your overall facial features.

What is forehead reduction surgery?

This surgery is suitable for those who wish to improve the appearance of the forehead and its complex lines, such as removing sagging and wrinkles in general, as well as those with very wide foreheads or those who wish to correct their M-shaped hairline.
It is a surgical procedure that reduces the length of the actual upper part of the face by moving the hairline down through a skin incision and removing excess skin, which makes the face appear smaller from the front as well as from the side.
When making a hairline incision, Dr. Tarek Zahra takes into account the direction of hair growth, so the incision is made at an angle opposite to the hair follicles, resulting in minimal damage and allowing the creation of a natural hairline by preserving enough hair on the forehead.
It is possible to reduce the forehead by 1 to 3 cm, depending on the elasticity of each individual's scalp. This technique often provides faster and more natural results than traditional hair transplantation.
Forehead reduction surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is also applied to the forehead area to minimize pain and bleeding.

Why is the upper face and brow-to-eye ratio so important?

When the ratio of the upper, lower, and middle parts of the face is 1:1:0.8, it's considered the golden ratio of facial balance. A long or wide forehead disrupts the balance of the face and can make it look older.
Similarly, the brow-to-eye ratio is an important factor. If the forehead is droopy and the distance between the eyebrows and eyes becomes narrow, this can result in a frowning expression, giving a strong, aggressive impression. Additionally, drooping eyelids can make the face look older and more fatigued.
By lifting the upper part of the face through forehead reduction or lift surgery, forehead wrinkles can be minimized and the eyebrows repositioned to a more youthful level. This procedure may also help correct droopy eyelids without the need for double eyelid surgery.

Who is a suitable candidate for forehead reduction surgery?

Forehead reduction surgery can balance the overall proportions of your facial structure. You may benefit from forehead reduction surgery if:
You have a high hairline, and you want to lower it.
You have a large forehead, and you want to shorten it.
You want to change your facial features.
You recently had a hair transplant and did not achieve the desired results.
You recently had a brow lift and would like to advance your hairline.

Forehead Reduction Procedure Steps:

Dr. Tarek Zahra, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, takes the following steps during the procedure:
1.  Dr. Tarek Zahra marks the hairline and forehead area to be removed with a surgical skin marker, taking care to preserve the hair follicles and nerves to prevent numbness.
2. The entire forehead, from the hairline to just above the eyebrows, is anesthetized using a local anesthetic.
3. A surgical incision is made along the marked area between the forehead and hairline. Dr. Tarek Zahra carefully separates the skin from the underlying tissue and removes the marked area.
4. Dr. Tarek Zahra then pulls the upper incision along the hairline to suture the skin together professionally, minimizing the appearance of scars as the hairline grows back.
5. Although forehead reduction surgery reduces the height of the forehead and may alter the appearance of the eyebrows, it does not necessarily raise the eyebrows. Therefore, if necessary, a brow lift can be performed in conjunction with forehead reduction surgery.

Recovery period after forehead reduction surgery:

Most clients return home within a few hours after surgery.
You will need a follow-up visit to have the stitches removed within ten days.
You will receive another follow-up about two to four weeks after surgery.
As with any surgical incision, great care must be taken to keep the wound clean and allow it to heal properly.
You will need to constantly check for any signs of infection at the incision site.
Dr. Tarek Zahra will provide detailed post-operative instructions, including how to reduce pain, swelling, and the risk of infection.

What are the risks and Potential side effects?

All surgical procedures carry some level of risk. Risks associated with forehead reduction include:
Bleeding during and after surgery.
Side effects of general anesthesia.
Allergy to general or local anesthesia.
Inflammation of the incision area.
Nerve damage at the site of the incision.
Numbness at the surgical site.
Temporary hair loss at the incision line.
Scarring after healing.

For most people, the benefits of forehead reduction surgery outweigh the risks. When performed by an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Tarek Zahra, the risk of visible scarring and long-term complications is very low.
