Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery is a delicate cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates the eyes, removing puffiness and excess skin to achieve a natural and attractive appearance.

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of your eyelids, the most prominent features of your face. This common procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. Blepharoplasty gives you a natural, fresh, and more youthful appearance. Dr. Tarek Zahra, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, is an expert in upper and lower eyelid surgeries, which involve removing excess skin and fatty deposits.

5 reasons to Consider eyelid surgery:
• Your appearance begins with your eyes: Puffy or full eyelids are associated with aging. Blepharoplasty restores your youthful appearance without looking overdone. You can have upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both.
• Restore your relaxed appearance: If you're planning multiple aesthetic procedures to improve your appearance, it is best to start with eyelid surgery and re-evaluate the condition before embarking on a more complex and less effective surgery.
• Noticeable Change: Your family and friends will quickly notice the improved appearance of your eyes after eyelid surgery.
• Natural and appropriate result: The outcome after eyelid surgery will not be overly tightened, as modern eyelid surgery techniques are designed to enhance the natural appearance.
• Psychological satisfaction: The main goal of eyelid surgery is to correct an issue. If your eyelids need improvement, blepharoplasty may be the best option for you.
Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery:
• Those who are physically and mentally healthy.
• Those aged 18 years or older.
• Those who suffer from wrinkles or excess skin around the eyelids.
• Those who suffer from puffy, droopy, and fatty eyelids.
• Those who are looking tired due to their sagging eyelids.
• Those who suffer from obstructed vision due to excess skin on the upper eyelids.
• Those who want natural-looking eye results on the upper and lower eyelids.
Basic steps for eyelid surgery:
Dr. Tarek Zahra carefully evaluates the patient's eyelids, determining the amount of excess fat and skin to be removed. A personalized consultation is conducted to discuss your cosmetic goals, followed by a comprehensive eyelid and facial examination to determine the best plan. You'll also receive information about eyelid surgery techniques and expected outcomes.
1- Upper eyelid cosmetic surgery:
In the upper eyelids, excess skin may cause a tired appearance or impair vision (also referred to as limited visual field).
In upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Tarek Zahra carefully removes the appropriate amount of excess skin while preserving the underlying structure, including muscles and fat. This preserves the natural volume of the upper eyelids and rejuvenates them.
2- Lower eyelid cosmetic surgery:
Signs of lower eyelid aging include prominent fat pads in the lower eyelid (eye bags), loss of volume, and excess skin. Lower eyelid surgery helps improve the appearance of the lower eyelid. Dr. Tarek Zahra uses the latest advanced techniques to give you the most natural appearance possible, with results that restore your youthful freshness.
In lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Tarek Zahra redistributes excess fat, instead of just removing it, to improve the hollowness under the eyelid and cheek area. This approach improves volume loss rather than just eliminating fat, enhancing the overall contour of the lower eyelid and cheek area.
3- Nano fat injections and injectable fillers:
In cases of significant volume loss around the eyelid area, such as the cheeks and midface, fat redistribution alone may not be sufficient to address the hollowness caused by the volume loss. In these cases, Dr. Tarek Zahra typically discusses other cosmetic options, such as nano-fat injections in conjunction with eyelid surgery.
My experience with eyelid surgery:
Lower eyelid puffiness, also known as fatty bags, is a common problem, especially with aging, fatigue, prolonged reading, and excessive screen time. This condition manifests as three prominent fatty bags under the eyes, on the right and left sides.
This case was treated surgically through a tiny, completely hidden incision just below the lash line—one of the most cosmetically unnoticeable incisions, leaving no visible scar. During the surgery, Dr. Tarek Zahra removed the fatty bags, tightened the eyelid muscles, strengthened the ligaments surrounding the eye, and then removed excess skin to achieve an excellent aesthetic result.
Other cosmetic procedures performed with eyelid surgery:
1- Ptosis Surgery:
In other cases, patients may experience upper eyelid ptosis along with excess upper eyelid skin. Performing upper eyelid surgery alone without addressing the ptosis will leave the patient looking more tired and lacking a rejuvenated appearance. Fortunately, ptosis can be treated at the same time with eyelid surgery. Dr. Tarek Zahra will conduct a careful evaluation and determine the need for ptosis correction and blepharoplasty in the same procedure. Both are typically performed together to achieve the desired rejuvenated eyelid appearance.
2. Brow Lift:
In cases of low-set eyebrows with excess eyelid skin, clients may require a combined brow lift in addition to upper blepharoplasty. Dr. Tarek Zahra performs several types of brow lift procedures, each tailored to the patient's desired outcome, examination findings, age, and gender. All techniques deliver excellent results when performed on appropriately selected clients. Combining a brow lift with eyelid surgery helps reposition the eyebrows to a more youthful and natural position, reducing the amount of skin that needs to be removed from the upper eyelids. Dr. Tarek Zahra's goal with a brow lift is to achieve natural-looking brows without creating an exaggerated appearance.

Dry eyes before and after eyelid surgery:
Another important consideration is a history of dry eye and previous eyelid surgery, both of which require careful evaluation before undergoing eyelid procedures with Dr. Tarek Zahra. Dry eye must be properly managed before surgery, as dry eye symptoms may worsen after eyelid surgery. Dr. Tarek Zahra generally does not perform surgery on patients experiencing active dry eye symptoms.
Patients who have undergone previous eyelid surgery may also be at risk for dry eye symptoms and difficulty closing their eyelids after surgery. While a previous eyelid surgery does not necessarily prevent you from undergoing another procedure, it is important to have a thorough examination to ensure you are a safe and suitable candidate.
After eyelid surgery, you will be given eye drops to be placed in the eye. It is recommended to continue using the drops for several days after your first postoperative consultation, or as directed by your doctor.
Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Tarek Zahra, a plastic surgery consultant, natural and distinctive results are achieved with eyelid surgery. The surgery aims to restore youth and vitality to the eyes without exaggerating the appearance. With Dr. Tarek Zahra, you can regain your confidence in your appearance safely and professionally. Don't hesitate to schedule your consultation now.
